Last week, during Pentecost Sunday, I kept thinking about how we rush by this key event for Christians. We don’t treat it this way, but I certainly think it is just as important as Christmas and Easter! Right after Pentecost, these frightened people became men and women who lived by faith and walked in unmistakable JOY!
Acts 2 describes how they devoted themselves to studying the teaching of the apostles, fellowship, prayer, and daily life. They worshipped God with pure hearts. They looked out for one another’s needs, and the world took notice. Yes, the miracle of Pentecost was amazing…but it wasn’t the wind or the fire alone. It was an entire group of people who decided to let the Holy Spirit transform their everyday lives. They walked a little slower, really seeing one another, and the Lord moved among them in miraculous ways.
People responded to Christ, and every day the Lord added those who were repenting to their number.
Let me give you a word of encouragement today. Spiritual growth doesn’t occur in flashes of excitement; it comes through daily devotion and obedience. If you long for a deeper walk with God, start by spending a few minutes each day reading God’s Word and talking to Him in prayer. Worship God, fellowship with other believers who will spur you on toward faith, and look for opportunities to bless others.
Invite the Holy Spirit to direct your thoughts, words, and actions each day. He empowered the disciples…He’ll empower you! When we stay connected to Him, our faith grows stronger, our joy grows deeper, and our lives become a testimony that points others to Jesus.
Hold on to Pentecost…hold on to the Spirit!
